Anan keeps a communicator’s data on their own device by default. This page explains what this website collects (almost nothing), what the app stores locally, and the one optional feature — Natural Voices — that sends text to a voice service when a carer switches it on.

This website

  • This marketing site sets no cookies and runs no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
  • The interactive demo board runs entirely in your browser; the words it speaks use your device’s built-in Web Speech voices. Nothing you tap in the demo is sent anywhere or stored.
  • If you email us using the details on the contact page, we use that information only to respond to you.
  • The site is served over HTTPS by Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard web-server request logs as our hosting provider.
  • If you choose to leave an email address when downloading a free guide from /resources, we store that address and which guide you chose, and use it only to tell you about new Anan family resources. It is optional, never required for any download, never sold or shared, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.

The Anan app

Using Anan as a communicator never needs an account. By default, everything — vocabulary, photos, voice recordings and usage insights — stays on the device, and insights are always calculated on the device. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.

If a carer or clinician chooses to turn on optional account sync, it is end-to-end encrypted: the device encrypts everything before it is uploaded, so the server only ever holds an unreadable bundle it cannot decrypt. The backup contains the person's setup — boards, vocabulary, settings and profiles. It deliberately never contains the messages someone has composed or spoken, and never their usage statistics: what a person says with Anan is transient and stays on the device. The one exception is the optional Natural Voices (online): when a carer switches it on — it is off by default, per communicator profile — the text to be spoken is sent to our voice provider (ElevenLabs) to generate the audio, which is then cached on the device. The request carries the text and a voice choice only — never audio, and never a name, account or profile identifier — and our relay stores nothing of what was said. The built-in voices work entirely on your device and send nothing. Anan's own account sync is end-to-end encrypted, so the server holds only an unreadable bundle wherever it runs.

A synced account can be deleted at any time from inside the app (Account → Delete account & cloud data). Deletion permanently removes the account row and every stored backup version from our servers immediately; everything on the device itself stays, and the board keeps working.

The app carries its own full privacy policy, which is the authoritative document for how the app handles data. Read the Anan app privacy policy ↗.

Children’s privacy

Anan is often used by and with children, under the guidance of families and clinicians. Because the communicator experience needs no account and keeps data on the device, no personal information about a child is collected by default.
